Enugu Airport Runway Almost Ready, Will Be In Use By Easter – Sirika

Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika has declared that the Enugu International airport runway would be completed and reopened for operations before the celebration of Easter this year.

The General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Federal Aviation Airport Authority (FAAN), Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu stated that Sirika made the disclosure while on an inspection visit to the airport. He noted that because of the strategic importance of the airport to the South-Eastern region, the Federal Government carefully contracted the project to a reputable construction company; Messrs PW Limited and that the contractor has given assurance that the project would be completed before Easter.

He stated that the new international terminal being constructed at the airport would also be completed before the end of the year, adding that Instrument Landing Systems (ILS), Air Field Lightning (AFL), taxi lights and other key deliverables are also parts of the project. The Minister was accompanied on the visit by the Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Mrs. Cecelia Eze Ilo, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr. Musa Hassan, the Managing Director of FAAN, Capt. Rabiu Yadudu, the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Aviation, Honourable Nnolim Nnaji and Nigeria’s representative to International Civil Aviation Organisation(ICAO), Engr Ben Tukur.

It would be recalled that the Federal Government on October 17, 2019 approved the sum of N10 billion for the rehabilitation of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu. The airport was closed for repairs by the federal government led by President Muhammadu Buhari after much outcry by people of the south-east regarding the dilapidated state of facilities at the airport.
